The first step in registering the free version of XTools is to get to the “About” menu. That said, there are still many useful functions available. This is very important to note, as using the icons on the toolbar is part of the paid version functionality: you can use the for the 14-day trial period, but after that, if you want to use the free XTools version, you will only be able to use the commands available in the drop-down menu. If you don’t see it, you can add it by right clicking on any toolbar and selecting the XTools toolbar from the list of available toolbars.Īs shown in the image above, the toolbar has a drop-down menu from XTools. Once you have completed the installer and launched ArcMap, you should see a new toolbar floating near the top.
I used these settings, as I have not yet used the XTools metadata tools, and am not sure what exactly setting it as default would override. While the full version with all functional does require a purchase, there is also a free version that has many of XTools’ most useful features. XTools is a useful add-on for ArcGIS that adds a toolbar with a multitude of useful functions.
